When it was all said and done, this year’s Buddy Walk was a great success, said Beth McLaughlin, Event Coordinator. The Centre County Down Syndrome Society held its 5th Annual Buddy Walk on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Medlar field at Lubrano park. There was something for everyone at the Buddy Walk! The smells of freshly made popcorn drew people in and for those wanting something sweet, Halloween –themed cookies were waiting. Kids enjoyed the games, balloons, face painting, and Raffle while the adults tried to out-bid each other on items at the Silent Auction.
In addition, the State College Little Lion was on hand posing for pictures and keeping everyone smiling with his antics. Just before the walk began, one of the highlights of the day was the performance by The For Good Troupe, members of the CCDSS. This group of young people performed a number of songs, entertaining the crowd with their talent and enthusiasm. And who appeared on the baseball track just as the Walk began? Why yes, it was Ike the Spike himself!
The CCDSS would like to thank ALL of the volunteers who helped make this year’s buddy Walk a huge success. Nearly 60 volunteers from the community, Penn State and local high schools did whatever was asked of them and they did a fabulous job. THANK YOU!
The CCDSS would also like to thank ALL of the corporate sponsors and business partnerships who contributed generously and in a variety of ways to the Buddy Walk. THANK YOU!
